Monty Python's Spamalot

Monty Python’s Spamalot is based on the the 1975 film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". However it differs from the film in many ways. The original Broadway production started in 2005. It was a massive success. Directed by the renowned Mike Nicholls it won three Tony awards and during its run was seen by over 2 Million people. This huge success was only naturally going to continue to further shows all over the world.

The show tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. The show "Raises silliness to an art form" and features beautiful show girls, killer rabbits and French people.

Monty Python has been enjoyed by millions the world over for decades. Started in the 1960’s by 6 British comics. They were They were John Cleese, Michael Palin, Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle. They were all to become household names from their show "Monty Python’s Flying Circus".

Their first mainstream movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" created mock Arthurian legend. The film depicts how King Arthur gathered together his Knights of the Round Table and set off on a quest to find the Holy Grail. In fact it was this constant reference to the movie musical that in 2003 got Eric Idle thinking about adapting MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL into a musical.

SPAMALOT is not exactly like the film. For example it doesn’t come in a metal canister but it does feature many of the same characters and the same sense of Python humour.
